Turtles often crowd onto logs to warm themselves in the sun in the murky green waters of ponds in the southern US. They resemble lumpy dark rocks on dirty logs. Watching this group, I noticed their reflection created an arrow of light in the otherwise dark green water. This group was particularly intriguing as the middle one had his back foot stretched out as if trying to keep the one behind from pushing forward and cutting their little line. Nature in action combined with the abstract begged to be painted.
